What is Oasis Relief Fund?
Oasis Relief fund is a not-for-profit organization that aims to make it easier for you to donate directly to those struck by disaster. Your money will be donated into a community pool of funds that will be managed by our time. As soon as our system detects a disaster somewhere in the world, a percentage of those funds will be sent to a disaster relief nonprofit charity in that area, ensuring that the funds can be injected directly for relief efforts.
Where does my money go?
Funds are accumulated through crowdfunding and held securely within our verified smart contract. Upon confirmation of a disaster event (like flooding) by PredictHQ’s API, a percentage of the available funds are automatically distributed to a predefined list of verified Non-Profit Organization (NPO) Ethereum wallet addresses in the affected region. Moreover, we foster continuous support for these NPOs by redistributing 1% of the total fund pool to all listed charities on a monthly basis. These NPOs all have the mission of improving the quality of life in disaster-stricken and rural regions around the world, ranging from Ukraine, Ghana, Malawi, USA, Mexico, and more.
How do the funds get distributed?
The funds are distributed based on a percentage of the pool of funds. The percentage value will change depending on factors such as the intensity of the disaster, the relief requirements, the difficulty of receiving other funding methods, etc. This percentage will be fair and ensure that all the different NPOs and disaster zones receive as much as they need.
How are the charities chosen?
The NPOs that we chose must have 2 conditions. The first condition is that they have a crypto wallet that they can use to accept donations. This is how they will accept donations from our pool of funds. The second condition is that they must have good standing in the community and within their field. This includes multiple metrics such as: date established, number of cryptocurrency donation transactions, reach, partnerships with local governments, etc.
What regions do you cover?
We cover most of the world, with some charities specializing in some areas, while some others have a broader reach. Currently, the NPOs cover Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Australia, and Oceania.
What do you use to know what disasters are happening?
We use PredictHQ's Events API (trusted by Uber, Amazon Alexa, Domin's, Accor Hotels and more) for real-time updates to determine when and where a disaster is happening. For more information about PredictHQ's API, click here. We then use Chainlink oracles to retrieve this information within our smart contract, where we automatically send transactions directly to our list of our partner chairities' verified wallets.
